| Influence of sea temperature variability on shell microstructural growth patterns of key mollusks from Peruvian benthonic communities. |
Abstract: |
| This research is a scleroclimatological approach oriented to the study of temperature influence on shell microstructural growth of molluscs. It include studies at high temporal resolution (daily and intradaily) of growth patterns in shell surface rings and internal growth lines and microbands. By comparison between shell growth pattern and temperature variability the research try to stablish the degree of temperature – growth correspondence. The results will help to understand the mollusc shell growth adaptations to the temperature variability in peruvian coast and also will help to interpret temperature records into the shells growth. The research will be basically conduced in the nature into the species habitats (in rocky bottom in the case of Concholepas concholepas and in soft bottoms in the case of Trachycardium procerum and Argopecten purpuratus.) trough, al least 1 year field experiments, to test shell microgrowth under natural temperature variability. In addition some short time experiments (1-2 months) will be conduced in laboratory to test shell microgrowth under specific controlled temperatures |
